Replacement of Canadian shingles for a roofing of a residential building in Námestov

In this article we would like to present you the sequence of steps in the implementation of the project: replacement of Canadian shingles on the roof of an apartment building in Námestov. The reason for the implementation was the replacement of the roofing due to leakage of the original already degraded Canadian shingles. The roof was made in 1997 and I assume that the original contractor and the designer of the building did not take into account the location of the building and the suitability of the roofing in the mentioned latitude. Thus, a huge hope for the residents of the apartment building was the replacement of the roofing.

Roof details

The roof itself was very complicated, which created increased demands on the roof details. The detailing on such a roof can only be handled by a qualified plumbing company with the necessary tools and experience. The roof consisted of the following details:

manzard,
the slough,
skylight,
snow catchers,
leeward mouldings made of facade cassettes,
ventilated ridge,
corner of the corrugated roofing.

The attached photographs show the complexity of these details and their subsequent processing.

Thermal insulation of the roof

A special chapter was the insulation of the attic and also four parts of the mansard roof with skylights. The insulation of the attic was carried out in the following steps:

Replacement of thermal insulation from the exterior in the mansard roof area,
backfilling and creation of the roof composition in the area of mansard roofs,
application of spraying PIR insulation on the ceiling of the 5th floor in the attic of the building.

Implementation of roof reconstruction

The reconstruction of the roof of the apartment building was carried out in the following stages:

erection of scaffolding around the building,
Removal of Canadian shingles,
creation of a ventilated layer by installing contralata,
installation of the formwork as a base for the folded roofing.

False roofing can only be carried out by a qualified company with quality tools. The use of quality materials and the appropriate tools is an essential requirement. These are in particular the following types of machines and plumbing tools.
