Composite tapes for joints in plasterboard installation
I would like to introduce you composite tapes for plasterboard from the American company STRAITFLEX. These are PVC composite tapes that are reinforced with glass fibre with pulp fibres. It is a good item that comes in rolls it is made to do exterior, interior corners including the use of reinforcing tape. Particularly suitable for lofts, prefabricated houses and buildings with lots of plasterboard detailing. In the following section I describe the basic uses of tuff tape and straitflex composite tapes.
- Reinforcement of plasterboard joints – suitable is TUFF TAPE tape No. 106537
- External corners – replacing aluminium profiles
- Inner corners – suitably replacing the traditional PVC profiles
- Termination profiles
- Arc profiles
Reinforcement of plasterboard joints
Each plasterboard joint needs to be treated with tape and it is up to the investor whether to use the following:
- glass-textile tape,
- paper tape,
- tape TUFF TAPE No. 106537
Outer corners
Normally, external cornices made of aluminium or colour-treated cornices made of galvanised sheet metal are used. Some also use PVC cornices. Cornices are thus distinguished
- aluminium,
- galvanized white,
- PVC (plastic),
- glass fibre reinforced PVC tape (original tape No. 106537).
Inner corners
The advantage of internal composite profiles is their easy application and especially their thin construction. Thanks to this, you are able to fix these spots with a small amount of plaster trowel. This will speed up the entire implementation of these internal joints. For this profile you can use the universal profile ORIGINAL no. 106537.
Termination profiles
The drywall must be terminated at all material transitions. These are in particular the following joints:
- connection of plaster and plasterboard,
- connection to door frames, windows and any other metal structures,
- joints of plasterboard and wooden structures,
- formation of shadow joints.
Here we can use two types of termination profiles of the following shapes:
- L-shaped termination profile – BEAD
- flat profile – EDGE TAPE
The use of these profiles is possible in the following constructions:
-
- in the creation of the lining and the connection of the window and plasterboard,
- termination of plasterboard and connection to the plaster with preservation of the admitted joint,
- connection to wooden beams,
- joints of plasterboard and steel frames.

Arc profiles
Plasterboard is a material where you can make and create structures of different shapes. It is a construction of walls and also ceilings, where the machining of all the arch structures is very important. Here the ARCH FLEX arch profile will be of great help. Again, the profile is packaged in a roll. The profile contains notches for creating arches and so each arch can be easily modelled.
Summary
- Reinforcing tape TUFF TAPE no. 106537- suitable for drywall joints, but also for use in interior corners.
- ORIGINAL tape – suitable for inside and outside corners.
- Termination profile – very practical termination profile.
Application of composite profiles
The application is simple, but as with any craft, you need to use tools to make the job easier. These are the following types of tools:
- roller NO COAT inside,
- roller NO COAT outside,
- spatula,
- grinding grid,
- edge trimmer,
- Angle,
- walkers.
A short procedure for applying the profile can be found here:
- cut off the profile,
- sandblasting of the base surface,
- rolling,
- repainting,
- regrinding,
- final trowelling,
- Grinding,
- Painting.
