JOUANEL chimney template

This adjustable table with chimney template pattern is used to hold and shape various parts of the attached chimney opening for pitched roofs. Different template patterns are available as an option and as required to shape the side sections to the desired angle of inclination. A tube built into the machine allows the bent parts to be shaped before the whole chimney is faluted. It simplifies the work of cladding chimneys and, depending on the roof pitch, can be used by one person. All forming processes on one machine (Tracing, edging, bending, stitching) Different tooling models angle templates according to the desired slope (optional device) Easy to change the angle and work with it. For all materials specific to roofing work

Chimney Templates 2026: Comparison of 4 Models on the Market

Comparison of chimney flashing templates – JOUANEL, FBU, MARCUS TRADE and Edge Fold

Chimney flashing is one of the most time-consuming details on a roof – and one of the details
where mistakes happen most often. A chimney template cuts the job from an hour
down to 15 minutes and lets you prefabricate the entire chimney joint in the workshop, without
a helper. There are four main chimney templates available on the market, and they differ in
price as well as in working philosophy: from a stationary workshop table costing almost €5,000
to a mobile kit that fits behind a car seat.

In this overview I have compared them so that you can quickly see which one suits your type of jobs.

1. JOUANEL chimney template – a complete workshop station

JOUANEL chimney template – adjustable workshop table for chimney flashing
Chimney template by JOUANEL

The JOUANEL
chimney template
is an adjustable workbench on which you prepare and form all the parts of
the chimney flashing for pitched roofs. The side sections are shaped to the required pitch
angle – various angle tool models are available for the machine as an option. The built-in
bending tube with a diameter of 60 mm allows the parts to be rounded before the whole chimney
is seamed.

What it handles on a single machine: marking, edge forming, bending and
seaming. Depending on the roof pitch, one person is enough to operate it.

Equipment

  • 2 blocks with two templates (1 fixed, 1 sliding) with swivel levers
  • graduated scale for setting the working width on both sides of the table
  • integrated bending tube with adjustable height
  • sliding shelf for accessories and tools
  • 8 mm and 12 mm marking aids, 2 holding magnets
  • legs with 4 swivel castors with brakes

Specifications: dimensions 1,700 × 790 × 1,000 mm, max. working width 1,320 mm, min. 255 mm.

Who it is for: workshops that make chimneys regularly and want all operations at a single workstation. The highest investment in this overview, but also the highest level of comfort.

Price: €4,670.00 incl. VAT (€3,796.75 excl. VAT)

2. FBU chimney template – the proven German standard

FBU Kaminschablone chimney template by Gottfried Maier & Sohn

The FBU
chimney flashing template
handles a complete chimney in 15 minutes: marking, bending,
rounding and folding the sheet metal on a single device. The saving is more than an hour of
expensive working time on every chimney.

The design was developed by Gottfried Maier (Meiling, Rott am Inn) and has been used
successfully on standing seam and other folded roof coverings for more than 25 years. The
original FBU Kaminschablone is manufactured to first-class quality with an emphasis on
precision.

Key features

  • universal template for producing chimney flashings for roof pitches of 20–50°
  • the base price covers the 20–30° range; other pitches are added by bolting on conversion kits
  • a perfect chimney joint in a short time, without a helper
  • a comprehensive range of accessories can be purchased separately or custom-made to order

Who it is for: sheet metal workers who mostly work with standing seam roofing and want a simple, reliable solution proven over the years, at half the price of the JOUANEL.

Price: €2,757.25 incl. VAT (base configuration 20–30°)

3. Chimney template with adjustable roof pitch – MARCUS TRADE

The chimney
template with adjustable roof pitch
is our own design and represents the most affordable
stationary option in this overview. The pitch is adjusted continuously, so you do not need to
buy separate tool sets for each angle range.

Who it is for: smaller sheet metal workshops and sole traders who do a handful of chimneys per season and want to stop measuring by eye, but do not want to invest three or four thousand euros.

Price: €1,116.23 incl. VAT (€907.50 excl. VAT)

4. EDGE FOLD chimney template – a mobile solution for the site

Edge Fold chimney template – mobile stainless steel kit for prefabrication directly on site
The Edge Fold template was developed by Michał Sadko

Edge Fold templates were developed by Michał Sadko, a master carpenter, sheet
metal worker with Rheinzink quality certification and founder of the Polish Akademia
Ciesielstwa. The philosophy is the opposite of the previous three models: instead of a large
table you get a compact kit made of stainless alloy steel that fits behind the seat of a
passenger car – so you can prefabricate directly on site.

Range: the templates are designed for roofs with a pitch of 0 to
60°
, in four variants: 0–15°, 15–30°, 30–45° and 45–60°. Each kit covers one range.

Advantages

  • two flashing types – low profile for flat coverings (standing seam, click panels, bitumen shingles, flat tiles) and high profile for profiled coverings (clay and concrete tiles, metal tile sheets) thanks to interchangeable formers
  • no limit on the width or length of the chimney being worked on
  • the chimney dimension can be changed even during work
  • stability thanks to formers fixed to the workbench
  • simple mechanical design with no parts that could break down

Kit contents: 2 base formers, 1 add-on former for profiled coverings, 1 for flat coverings, 2 spacer plates, a clamp with a swivel handle – all in a transport case made of 12 mm plywood. Weight approximately 30 kg.

Who it is for: mobile crews and sheet metal workers who do not want to prefabricate in the workshop and take the preparation to the site. If you work across the full 0–60° range, you need to allow for several kits.

Price: approximately €530–655 depending on the variant

What tools do you need with the template?

The template itself is only half of the job. These are the aids that make chimney flashing
significantly easier:

Video: chimney flashing in practice

The best way to see how the templates work is footage from the workshop. I have selected four videos:

1. Chimney flashing on the JOUANEL template

The complete procedure from marking to seaming on a single table.

2. Chimney flashing according to Rheinzink

A detailed demonstration on titanium zinc, including the connection to standing seam roofing.

3. Flashing with Edge Fold

Prefabrication directly on site with the mobile kit.

4. Chimney template with adjustable roof pitch

Setting the pitch and working on the MARCUS TRADE template.

Which chimney template should you choose?

  • You make chimneys every week and have space in the workshop → JOUANEL. All operations at one station, the highest comfort.
  • You work mainly with standing seam roofing → FBU. A design proven over 25 years at roughly half the price.
  • You do a few chimneys per season → MARCUS TRADE template with adjustable pitch. The lowest entry price among the stationary options.
  • You prefabricate on site and travel between jobs → Edge Fold. Around 30 kg, fits in the car, but you buy one kit per pitch range.

Not sure which template suits your jobs? Take a look at the full range or get in touch – we will help you choose the right pitch range and accessories.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a chimney template cost?

From roughly €530 for a single angle variant of the mobile Edge Fold kit, through €1,116 for the MARCUS TRADE template with adjustable pitch and €2,757 for the German FBU, up to €4,670 for the complete JOUANEL workshop table.

Can a chimney be flashed without a template?

Yes, but marking out and bending by hand takes more than an hour and the result depends on the sheet metal worker’s experience. A template cuts the job down to about 15 minutes and guarantees repeatable joint accuracy.

Which roof pitch should I choose a template for?

The MARCUS TRADE template has a continuously adjustable pitch, the FBU covers 20–50° (20–30° as standard, further ranges via conversion kits), and Edge Fold comes in four variants: 0–15°, 15–30°, 30–45° and 45–60°. Always measure the actual roof pitch with a roofer’s bevel gauge.

Which sheet metal is suitable for chimney flashing?

Most often titanium zinc, copper, galvanised or plastic-coated steel sheet. The templates are designed for all materials used in roofing work; for softer materials a nylon hammer is recommended as it will not damage the surface.

Do I need a helper to work with the template?

No. All four templates are designed so that a single sheet metal worker can complete the chimney joint alone.

Conclusion

All four templates solve the same problem – a fast and accurate chimney joint – but each in a
different way. Before you decide, think about where you actually work: in the workshop, or on
the roof. That single question will narrow the choice down to two models, and the rest is a
matter of budget and the pitch range you meet most often.
