HUT profile and its use

Direct installation of plasterboards on ceilings and walls using HUT profile

The HUT profile is mainly used for direct mounting of plasterboards on ceilings and walls. The literal translation of the HUT profile is “hat profile”. This name is probably based on the shape of the profile in cross-section, but also on its function in plasterboard installation. This profile is also used in residential attics and where it is not possible to use trusses for plasterboard profiles. It can also be used in situations where sprayed PUR thermal insulation is used and the plasterboard can be anchored directly to the rafters, or to the wooden partition posts in prefabricated houses. This way you save a lot of accessories that you have to buy from the supplier of the dry construction system. The profile is very strong, stable and you can anchor it even in renovations on walls with old plaster. You anchor the profiles and you can cover the walls with plasterboard. You will not only save masons, but also a lot of time. Using plasterboard is one of the fastest construction methods. The HUT profile can be used in the following cases:

  • anchoring plasterboard directly to the rafters,
  • anchoring plasterboard directly to OSB boards in prefabricated houses,
  • anchoring the plasterboard directly to the supporting beams of the ceiling,
  • anchoring of plasterboard during reconstruction directly on the old plaster.

Why use a HUT profile when I can use wooden lathing?

The answer is simple. The profile in question is steel, which means that it can reliably withstand any movement of the plasterboard or the supporting structure and no cracks will occur due to movements of the subfloor grid. If you use wooden slatting, you will save the initial costs compared to the HUT profile, but you must take into account the fact that various cracks will appear over time. Wooden lathing will never be as strong as a steel profile, and the movements in the plasterboard will not be caught by moisture or other influences as they would be if you used a HUT profile. It’s really up to you how you decide, but we hope this article will help you make the right decision. If you have any questions, we would be happy to advise you.
