Injection screen and wet plaster remediation

Injection screen and wet plaster remediation

The rehabilitation of the original plaster is a demanding construction process. The work involves removing the cement plinth protruding from the façade and the damaged plaster up to a height of 80 cm to the limit of the measured plaster wetting. A waterproofing plaster is applied to the lower part of the perimeter masonry up to a height of 30 cm above the ground level, on top of a cementitious base levelling layer. Prior to the application of the levelling layer, the substrate shall be cleaned of soft and non-cohesive parts of the bonding mortar and filling material. At a height of 30 cm above the measured waterline, the original salt-laden plaster shall be removed. The BAUMIT remedial plaster system is used instead. Above this level, the plaster must be retained and the damaged surfaces repaired. Also, multi-year coloured coatings should be sanded down with a ROKAMAT sander to the underlying plaster and painted with a contact primer containing mineral fibres. This will ensure that the substrate is strengthened and small cracks are bridged. A diffusion paint is then applied on an acrylic-silicate base This is used to sanitise the insulation against ground moisture at the level of the perimeter masonry. This method is one of the very popular methods of remediation. Compared to undercutting the masonry, the advantage is mainly faster implementation and no need for a diamond saw when undercutting the masonry. Between the waterproofing plaster and the BAUMIT perimeter remediation system, we recommend using the PROTEKTOR stainless steel plinth profile, which will also serve as a mechanical barrier against water ingress into the masonry in the plinth area.

Injection screen

If a grouting screen is required, we recommend the supplier below. The procedure and application of the material can be found in the link below.

We recommend to use

  • CEMIX system of remedial plasters from pre-coat to stucco
  • stainless steel profiles PROTEKTOR
  • ATRO waterproofing systems

Composition of BAUMIT remediation

The manufacturer BAUMIT specifies the following procedure for the remediation of exterior plaster on stone perimeter walls

  • Baumit preparation of the substrate for external wall plastering with cement pre-coat with 100 % coverage
  • Baumit substrate preparation for external wall plastering with cementitious pre-coat with 50% coverage
  • Baumit exterior plaster Sanova W wall leveling thickness 15 mm,
  • Baumit exterior plaster Sanova W wall leveling thickness 15 mm,
  • Baumit exterior lime-cement plaster core machine Grob Putz walls
  • Baumit exterior plaster Sanova fine
  • Baumit liquid facade primer
  • Baumit exclusive Liquid facade coating on acrylate-silicate base

Between the waterproofing plaster and the BAUMIT perimeter remediation system, we recommend using the BAUMIT stainless steel plinth profile, which will also serve as a mechanical barrier against water ingress into the masonry in the plinth area.

Remediation composition by CEMIX

Alternatively, the mortar mix manufacturer CEMIX uses the following composition

  • Limestone conservation spray for substrate treatment (144)
  • Limestone stucco (134)
  • lime stucco thick
  • lime plaster – contains lime and pozzolanic binder, does not contain cement
  • Silicate facade coating (FT)
