The journey to using modern façade materials such as SHERA fibre cement boards has been a long one, but we would like to briefly summarise it for you. Architects have constantly searched and searched for new and new materials in order to be able to materialize their ideas and thus satisfy their clients with original solutions and shapes. The monopoly in façade materials in the last two decades has been contact insulation systems, either made of polystyrene or, nowadays, its alternatives: graphite polystyrene or glass wool. It is clear that these materials have gained in popularity thanks to their many advantages, such as good thermal insulation properties and ease of installation. Times are changing and so are the demands on buildings, especially in terms of visual but also better thermal insulation properties of facades. This is precisely the requirement of ventilated facades, which have been on the market for a very long time, but with a small presence. In times long gone by, they were mainly an aesthetic feature and did not contribute much to energy saving. Today’s ventilated functions must meet the high thermal requirements of thermal envelope insulation, good ventilation and high durability of the façade panels.
