The modern stucco façade and its use is closely linked to the modern elements and technologies of contemporary architecture. Today’s architecture is both influenced by the materials that are readily available today, and it is also impossible to avoid the technological lobby of building material manufacturers. We are talking about manufacturers of thermal insulation materials and systems. The consequence of these influences is the change of places and the almost complete loss of efforts to preserve traditional facades and buildings. We are referring in particular to the renovation of buildings dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Many of them are being insulated with contact insulation systems during renovation, thus covering up what is most precious in the city. It is that sense of traditional construction that can create a unique atmosphere for a city. This issue could be resolved by the attitude of the property owners and the will to preserve the original facades or, conversely, to use elements of stucco facades in the construction of new buildings, thus contributing to the preservation of traditional facades. The repair of exterior problems in renovations will be handled by plasterers who are experienced in such execution and ideally will also help themselves with profiles that create joints and the illusion of blocks on the façade. This assistance is ideally realised through the use of a barefoot profile.
Facades can be either reconstructed or made new. Today’s materials can reliably rehabilitate the original stucco plaster. It is only necessary to consult with a restorer or someone who has experience. There is nothing better than a traditional stucco façade. It’s breathable, it’s eco-friendly. However, it is important to use the right material and that:
- sand,
- slaked lime (can be bought bagged),
- axilate.
If you are building a new building in the centre of a historic town, or a replica of a mansion, you can help yourself with prefabricated cornices. This can simplify the implementation, but the effect will be unrepeatable. I will be happy to talk to you about the shape of these elements, so please do not hesitate to contact me. Be inspired by the gallery pictures in which the modern stucco facade is captured.
It is advisable to use stainless steel profiles on such objects, which guarantee high durability. Alternatively, you can shape the arches appropriately using a widra profile. We will be glad if you have any questions in the comments.
